I'd like to know, as well. My choice between a 3G-capable iPad or a Wi-Fi model rests largely on how capably the location services work on the iPad. I'll be using a Wi-Fi model tethered to a phone, if this app works as well as advertised.

Agreed, .mac had a solid, sensible, identifiable connotation. I wasn't a mac guy at the time, but it whenever I'd see it, conveyed that Apple was providing a decent service package for it's users. "me" just seemed needlessly self-absorbed, and conveys nothing useful. "Castle" sounds like somebody in marketing trying hard to be clever.

I wish they'd simplify, combine & condense all these services, give all their iTunes and new hardware customers an account, and give at least one or two services away free to get people using it in some capacity. ...find my iPhone/iPad, or contact/cal/limited storage push syncing... But just go back to calling the whole package ".mac" again. Clean, short, clear, promotes the brand without being obnoxious.

It'll never be '.mac' again. Apple's ecosystem has changed too much since then, and it's not all about the Mac anymore. But I agree they need a free service which at very least includes syncing between devices, and a small amount of online storage.

Hi.

After upgrading my computer and my software (from Tiger to Leopard) a strange thing happened: my Airport signal (which was the strongest before) is at the middle. But the strangest thing is that, when I open Network Preferences, my internet connection is showed as a PCI Ethernet slot 3, port 3 connection (although it shows an Airport icon); for Airport, it says it's connected but it has no IP address! I have a PCI Ethernet card, but it's not connected.

I also intalled a PCI USB 2.0 card, but I don't think it has anything to do with that.

Any ideas?

Perhpas it is cool, but it "crashed" my touch pad. I zapped PRAM, repaired permissions and deleted the Sidetrack program and I still coouldn't get the touch pad to work again. Finally, I reinstalled Panther and it works......

i just installed it and then i read this which scares me...

anyone else have this problem?

Just buy external hard drives and do they traditional backups.

This sounds good but here is what i run in to
1. I can fit all the media on my imac ( after 3TB) for streaming via itunes and AirVideo
2. External Drives are not backed-up via time machine

I dont trust the drobo for anything but time machine after my recent close call with it.
I currently do monthly backups to sata drives that sit on a shelf when not in use this is a pain but loosing many dollars of media is worse

Are there dives bigger than 3TB to install on my imac?

I've owned my SB (2011) MBP for over a month now. I have yet to use the Thunderbolt port and wished many times that it had USB3.0 support. Are there any Thunderbolt adapters available on the market yet? TB to USB 3.0 would be great. Alternatively a docking station would be cool. Anything besides the one LaCie drive?

I was debating on doing the 4.3.1 update now that the jailbreak is available. Is this a bad call? It seems many are unhappy they updated their software. I am currently on 4.2.1. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't. I'm regretting it now and contemplating if it's worth it to roll back since I don't think I can use a current 4.3.1 backup to restore to 4.2.1 (and I didn't save my final 4.2.1 backup :()

Coconut Battery says it has a full charge (5020 or something), but the battery only lasts around 3-4 hours. Is this typical? It's got around 950 cycles.

Wow, that looks very nice! I don't have a .Mac account, but I would definitely love one... but not for $99. :( I'm really hoping for a price drop in the near future.
just buy it on Ebay. I bought a new unregistered .mac account off ebay for like $50 plus shipping.

Bibliographer (http://www.stanford.edu/~tristanh/bibliographer.html) --this is the best tool for doing Bibliographies. I use it a lot. Very customizable, very easy to learn and use, and runs on anything from OS 8 to OS X to System 7.5.3.

Every student should have this software... :)

I'm using a mid 2010 mac mini, samsung miniDV hooked up to firewire 800. (imovie 11) It doesn't skip on the tape, but when I play it back in imovie, it skips in the same place each time. no matter how many times i re-import it, it skips in the same place. Is there any way to stop this?
